PHT 112 Princ. of Prac. I: Intro to Pt
This foundational course serves as an essential introduction to the field of physical therapy for Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) students. This course discusses the roles and responsibilities of the PTA as a member of the healthcare team in the management of individuals across the continuum of care. Legal, ethical and professional behaviors will be discussed, and students will develop a personal awareness and understanding of justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion as it relates to healthcare disparities. This course introduces students to standards of medical record keeping, different types of healthcare documentation, and general information on billing for physical therapy services. In addition, students will understand legal and ethical requirements related to medical records and the sharing of patient information. The student will study interpersonal relationships, communication skills, and various forms of communication. The student will explore the social and psychological aspects of illness, disability, death and dying. Lecture two hours per week.
